A private, on-device app that turns a folder of your documents and emails into a searchable evidence ledger and reconstructed timeline, and answers questions with citations you can open. Everything runs on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded, ever, unless you turn on Online mode and approve a send.
Your knowledge base is encrypted on your Mac. Its key lives in your Keychain, and the app shows it to you as a recovery key (Settings → Your data → Encryption, after Touch ID or your Mac password). Write it down and keep it safe: it is the only way to open your knowledge base on another Mac — for example from a backup — or after the Keychain is reset. We cannot recover it for you.
Off unless you turn it on (Settings → Modules → Connection). You add your own API key for Anthropic, OpenAI or Google; before anything is sent you see exactly what would go and where, and you choose to send it or not. One click returns you to Private mode. Questions about a provider's handling of what you send are governed by that provider's terms.
Investigation Docs Made Easy works beside DEVONthink: Tools → DEVONthink reads a DEVONthink database in place (nothing is written into it) and can send items back. To read your archive on an iPhone or iPad, export a signed snapshot (Settings → Backup), set a passphrase, copy the folder over with AirDrop or Files, and open it in the Investigation Docs Made Easy Viewer app.
